LCA inventory visits start at INEGI

One of the activities of FIBRE4YARDS is to perform a life cycle assessment (LCA) of different advanced production technologies developed in the project to assess the environmental impact over the entire life cycle of ships, including manufacturing, operation, dismantling, recycling and waste management.

Such an analysis will provide recommendations for optimal solutions of the environmentally friendly technology of lightweight ship production. The LCA-related activities are led by the Lodz University of Technology. The team has already started preparing the ground for the LCA by visiting the facilities of the industrial partners of the project. The aim of the visits is to get acquainted with the different technologies developed in FIBRE4YARDS. Two of such inventory visits have already been paid. The first one at the facilities of INEGI on 9-10 December 2021 where João Silva, Rúben Pereira and Diogo Cardoso presented the automated tape laying, pressing and hot stamping technologies used for FIBRE4YARDS. During the vists, the Lodz team, Ireneusz Zbicinski, Monika Pietrzak and Dorota Siuta discussed the elements of the life cycle inventory, from definition of the functional unit to materials, energy, water and air consumption which are necessary in the scope of the LCA.
